Happy New Year!

Like I mentioned in the last post this year went by in a blur, so I really hope that 2014 will be a bit more...lasting - especially regarding the good memories.

A new year, a new chapter...
filled with new expectations, challenges and hopefully dreams coming true.

I wish you all a Happy New Year!

I had some trouble with Feedburner (and for quite a while apparently without realizing it - really sorry about that!) but now everyone who follows this blog by email should get an email notification every time a new blog is posted here.
Keeping my fingers crossed that it'll work now!

Reading and Writing in 2013

It's that time of year again when others like to look back on what happened or on what they achieved while I think about all the books I've read and...wanted to write.

To start...I read a couple of series that had me totally hooked:

Chicagoland Vampires by Chloe Neill

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Downside Ghosts by Stacia Kane

Guild Hunter by Nalini Singh

Regarding the writing...that really didn't work out so well for me this year.
I had planned to publish three books, inlcuding Ivory Guard, but in the end I only managed to publish two, and those were written under pseudonym.
I really do hope that next year I'll be able to stick with the plan no matter what obstacles life throws at me!

The Patroness - Paperback Launch

*jumping up and down*

It's happening.
After a lot of formatting and several proof copies I was finally satisfied with the result and on December 17 I hit the Publish button. Apparently Amazon still needs some time to connect the paperback and Kindle Edition but here are the paperback links:

Regarding the prizing, I tried my best and it's as low as CreateSpace allows it to be. I will only get about 50cents per copy but I feel weird to demand more for it seeing as I'm not an established author. Besides, the main reason I decided to publish a dead-tree-version of The Patroness Novels was to give readers who prefer the 'real thing' a chance to discover them - and of course, I couldn't resist the opportunity to have my own books in print and in my hands. ;)

Anyway, being an indie auhtor I totally enjoyed taking care of everything myself - the cover, the description, the spine, not to mention the interior. Using CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform was interesting and at times frustrating (concerning the formatting, not the site) , but in the end I can say I did this:

I'm still reeling from the feeling of having my own books in my own two hands. Christmas really has come early! ;)
Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Maiwenn Cadic doesn’t have a quiet and normal life.
This week won’t be any different.

Being the Patroness of Paris and protecting its inhabitants is a full time job but unfortunately it doesn’t pay the bills and so Maiwenn tries her best to make a living as a down-on-her luck private eye for odd cases.

When five shapeshifters end up dead, she knows it’s bad news and has to call in The Council. They immediately send their assassin Kylian Tremaine, a typical shapeshifter who doesn’t take ‘no’ for an answer and seems to see everything female as a damsel in distress - which Maiwenn is really not.

Together they will not only have to overcome their prejudices and obstacles in the form of a trigger-happy bounty hunter and a hungry rogue, but they will also have to trust each other in order to solve the murder before more bodies pile up.

Change of Theme

Since I'm already in a rather christmassy mood I decided to 'decorate' here as well.

I know Christmas is still a few weeks ahead, but hey tomorrow's the first Sunday in Advent and it's not like I put this up in October or something. ;)
If some of you want to know where I got the picture...I searched the internet and stumbled upon this lovely abstract Christmas tree. It's actually a wallpaper (from towallpaper.com) and I love it since it's a nice shade of blue - which is obviously something I can't do without on this blog.

Trying out the Kindle Countdown Deal

Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing offers a new promotion: the Kindle Countdown Deal.
I'm going to try this for the first time over the next couple of days, which means starting November 26 and ending December 1 The Hunt is On will be available at time-limited, discount prices.

Book 2 in the Patroness Series:

Maiwenn Cadic has her hands full.
The Turn is a few weeks ahead and the world seems to be literally coming apart at the seams - natural disasters and weird phenomena keep everyone on edge. An unusually high number of missing persons is thought to be just another side effect but is making Maiwenn nervous.

When all fingers point to the Queen of the Undead, Maiwenn is once again forced to join forces with Kylian, new leader of the Paris shapeshifter pack.
Sharp-tongued and sharp-fanged conflicts follow...

Today I thought it’s time to write about something else…not the usual book stuff, just something different that’s on my mind - though to be honest it still is a bit book related.

I’m thinking about cars.
You might wonder why.
I’m not a car expert or fanatic or anything. But…I do appreciate nice ones.
That might be thanks to my older brother, with whom I played around with matchbox cars when we were young and later NeedForSpeed (and other (racing) games) on our PlayStation. ;)

Anyway, I was browsing through the internet for a nice shot of a first generation Dodge Challenger since my Ivory Guard drives in one and therefore I wanted to put up a picture on The Guard Duet Blog for you. While deciding on which car they would drive (though I quickly decided on the Dodge since I love it – although I’ve unfortunately never driven in one), I remembered a friend of mine and I talking about classic cars, especially American, not so long ago. It had me wondering which one I’d go for.
Well…since I’m a goner for pony and muscle cars I’d lean immediately towards those.
And while the 50s and 60s have seen great ones, I really like the early 70s models. They have big mouths and this square and defying look to them; they are long and wide - and yet also...curvy.

Sam and Dean have their Impala, Damon his Camaro and Terrible his Cheville. But if I could choose, I’d definitely take the ‘72 Dodge Challenger - or a ’70 Oldsmobile 442 if it were in blue. ;)

As for my friend…well, since we didn’t get to finish our conversation I have to take a guess and, sticking with muscle cars, allow myself to say that a red ‘70 Buick Gran Sport 455 would suit you. ;)

Happy Halloween!

Okay...I know this comes a little late but I was gone over Halloween to visit my family.
So... anyway, I had a great time and I used it to recharge my batteries. Once again I was reminded why autumn is my favorite season.
With the sun bright in the sky, sweet autumn in the air, rustling leaves at my feet and a nice cup of glühwein (mulled wine) around a bonfire  ...
Aah, yes, I really enjoyed being home. And my Mom still enjoys the pumpkin I carved out for her.

The Patroness - Soon in Paperback...

Ebooks are great...
but I think at heart a lot of authors dream of holding their book in their own hands. To feel the smoothness of the cover and spine, to feel the weight of their blood, sweat and tears.

Thanks to fellow indie author and friend Leanne Crabtree I discovered the chance to self-publish my novels in paperback - and I grabbed it immediately.
Really, who wouldn't?

Now, I'm glad to say that Blue Moon Rising and The Hunt is On will soon be available in paperback, probably around Christmas!!!

Ivory Guard - Another glimpse...

so I have indulged a little these last few days and enjoyed curling up on the couch with a good book in hand - namely Into the Deep by Samantha Young and then I couldn't resist the pull of Angels' Blood by the incredible Nalini Singh.
Really is there something better than a good book, comfy couch and maybe even a glass of wine???

But after this nice break I will be back to working on Ivory Guard full force!

In the meantime...I thought you might want to take a look at my fantasy cast for IG ( meet Wentworth Miller as Raz and Kristen Stewart as Lillian, at least in these shots ;) )...
and here's another teaser...
Enjoy! ;)

Her cry of sheer happiness was still ringing in his ears as she jumped up to give him a peck on the lips. It was meant as a celebratory sharing of their achievement, he knew it.
... But it didn’t stop the snap of power in the air - or maybe it was in his blood, he couldn’t say - and they both stopped moving, staring into each other’s eyes. The thrill of battle and rush of victory was pumping through them, mixing with something deeper, even more primitive. She swallowed and wet her lips. Thought fleeing him, he dropped his head and kissed her...

Blue Moon Rising's days as a freebie are over - for now at least - and I would like to thank all the people who downloaded it like crazy.
Special thanks go out to the UK where BMR was downloaded like never before and Germany where it ranked #6 in category.
I know, some might think this isn't much since we are talking about a book that was given away for free after all, but to me it means the world.
Therefore...Thank you! :)

The Guard Duet

The Ivory Guard was meant to be a standalone novel but there is a
sideline character that I just couldn't get out of my head ....she tugs at me and yesterday, while listening to "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison and then "Use Somebody" by Kings of Leon (I know, weird mix but I like it and it works for me and that's what counts) I imagined her own story.
After a nice, inspiring chat with Leanne I decided there will be a second book. So...that settled I had to make some changes - the title and the cover for Ivory Guard (book #1) for instance - to facilitate the design for Ebony Fight (book #2).
Leanne was a big help making it official on Goodreads yesterday - I wasn't able to change the cover of my own book, but Leanne was. Funny, huh?
Anyway, this newborn series is called The Guard Duet (you can find more information here) and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I love planning and writing it. ;)

Facing Shadows - Chapter 1

I know, I know...
I had promised to put it up way back in December, I think (Oh God!), and I'm really sorry for the mammoth delay.

But here it is now... Facing Shadows - Chapter 1
Proof that Maiwenn and Kylian's story goes on! ;)

I can't give you an exact release date yet, however I'll do my best to have the book ready by the end of the year.
I'll keep you posted.

No Way

We can’t be nearing August already.
What the hell has happened?

Am I the only one who thinks the year 2013 is laughing up its sleeve while passing by in the blink of an eye?
I had so many plans for this year, including publishing three books – and not ONE has come out yet! Nothing goes according to plan…and I think I’m going to panic.

Ivory Guard isn’t finished, Facing Shadows isn’t either…I’m changing and pushing back the publication dates every month now.

Obviously it’s time to up the game!

...I don't know why, but they make my heart ache. I love watching those bursts of color explode like flowers in the night sky. One moment they are there almost within arm's reach and then ... they whisper away.

It's the 14th of July, the French National Day or Bastille Day, which commerates not only the storming of the Bastille (1789) but also the unity of France (Fête de la Fédération, 1790).
Last night was a time for celebration and fireworks. It was absolutely beautiful, and suprising that a small town like the one I now live in actually organizes a half-hour long pyrotechnic masterpiece.

Speaking of fireworks...
a quote from "The Hunt is On" on Goodreads:

“I never felt so...argh and grrr and hmmm before."
Pauline laughed. "That's a good one."
I glared at her, throwing a croissant at her as a punishment. Which she caught. Hmpf.
"I can't describe it. I'm not a poet."
Remembering yesterday, the kisses and the heat, I answered without hesitation, "Bombs.”

The Patroness Fantasy Cast

Ever come out of the movies a little disappointed over the cast chosen for your favorite book character?
I certainly have.

This time you might be disappointed in me, in my choice for the fantasy cast for The Patroness Series – Maiwenn and Kylian. But hey, it’s fantasy we’re talking about which means we can always change stuff. ;)

Let’s have a look.

As Kylian – Ian Somerhalder.

I had a little trouble with this one but in the end it’s the eyes that got to me. Especially the last one...it's exactly like I imagined Kylian's tiger to stare at you.
Really, with those eyes of his there couldn’t have been a better choice, at least in my opinion.
However I’m open to your suggestions.

As Maiwenn – beautiful Melanie Laurent.

You might have seen her in Tarantino’s “Inglorious Bastards”. I didn’t even need a lot of thinking on this one. Melanie was Maiwenn for me…kinda right from the start.

But what do you think???
Any other ideas?

Ivory Guard - Teaser

Damn, what a week.
Of course, I had to choose this one to get sick...as if moving around the second time in six months and having a lot of work ahead of us in the new house wasn't enough on our plate...and so my writing schedule has been blown into smithereens. Raz and Lillian are pushing at me to get my ass - well, hands - movin' while I'm rather busy coughing my lungs out and applying silicone in the bathroom.

I managed to throw together a little teaser for The Ivory Guard!
Okay, okay, I admit it might turn into a bribe since I'm afraid I'll have to push back publication...seeing how things are(n't) moving along...
Sorry! I'll keep you posted on that.

Hope you like the teaser though...it's from a training scene - in the dark. ;)
